India witnessed on Tuesday a sharp rise in the number of deaths due to COVID-19 as 380 fresh deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, while 10,667 new positive cases were registered.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said in its latest update today that the total number of positive cases stood at 343,091, while the death toll has touched 9900.

The authorities in the country are struggling to meet the basic medical facilities in the face of increasing Covid-19 cases and capital New Delhi is busy turning railway coaches into temporary medical wards to take care of corona virus patients.

The Indian government had decided to extend the lock down in containment zones while giving key relaxations in the less affected.

However, many state governments are unwilling to extend the lock down as it has already made normal life and economic activities in jeopardy.
