The labor departments of the Public Authority for Manpower prevented the transfer of work permits in the private sector from one company to another for those over 65 years of age, despite the absence of formal or organizational decisions issued by the sector’s agent.

Informed sources confirmed that no decision would be issued to prohibit the transfer of the aforementioned age group in the private sector, while department managers confirmed to Al-Qabas that they had received verbal instructions to apply the decision to prevent transfer to only those who do not have a university degree and exceeded 65 years while continuing to renew the work permit for the sponsor himself.

The sources stated that those over 65 years old who have accredited university degrees are allowed to transfer and renew, but some employees start the process of refusing the transaction despite the absence of formal or even oral instructions.

She stated that the age group older than 60 years, which has the ability to work, cannot be stopped as long as the private sector or the company in which he works needs it and considers it a cadre.

And regarding the existence of new decisions regarding the processes of transferring, renewing, and recruiting new workers, the sources stated that work is being done to amend some legal articles in a way that guarantees protection of employment and modifying the demographics.


Labor force statistics revealed that there are 85,623 residents older than 60 years, of whom 53,814 are residents in the registered age group between 60 and 64 years, of whom 7,389 are female, in addition to 31,809 over 64 years, of whom 28277 are men.

It showed that 17,117 of the largest category of 60 years are working in the field of company managers, officials and specialists in the private sector, education, health and other sectors, which represents 20% of the total number.
