The Minister of Health, Sheikh Dr. Basil Al-Sabah, affirmed the ministry’s keenness to strengthen cooperation with the World Health Organization and pride in the relationship with the organization dating back to 1960, the date Kuwait’s accession to its membership.
This came during the Ministry’s participation with a high-level delegation headed by the Minister of Health in the meeting of the Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean No. 67, today, Monday, which will continue its activities until tomorrow, Tuesday, via video communication.
In a speech delivered on his behalf, Assistant Undersecretary for Planning and Quality Affairs, Dr. Muhammad Al-Khashti, Sheikh Basil Al-Sabah called for exchanging experiences and drawing lessons learned by the countries of the region while dealing with the pandemic and its implications.
He referred to the report issued by the Global Preparedness Council hosted by the World Health Organization and the important messages it contains, calling for dealing with the epidemic and false information whose repercussions are no less than the pandemic.
For his part, Director of the International Health Relations Department, Dr. Rehab Al-Wattian, told Kuwait News Agency that the meeting’s agenda includes many topics, the most prominent of which is the current situation of the new Corona pandemic in the Eastern Mediterranean Region.
He added that the meeting also dealt with the application of the International Health Regulations, strategies for providing medicines and vaccines, the global action plan for patient safety, regional strategies for blood transfusion services, laboratories, family medicine, and universal health coverage.
He indicated that the meeting witnessed the awarding of the organization’s prizes as it won the “Kuwait Prize for the Control of Cancer, Cardiovascular Diseases and Diabetes in the Eastern Mediterranean Region”, Dr. Sulafa Ali from the Republic of Sudan for her research and initiatives in children’s heart health programs, as well as the announcement of the winners of the organization’s prizes at the level of the Eastern Mediterranean Region. .
He pointed out that the ministry’s delegation participated in presenting Kuwait’s achievements and the progress made to implement the development health programs related to the global goals and targets for sustainable development until 2030 and the measures taken to contain the new Corona pandemic by strengthening the surveillance and response systems, following up on contacts, awareness, cooperation and coordination with ministries, government agencies and civil society and providing Diagnostic services, surveys and treatment.
The Ministry of Health delegation includes the Undersecretary of the Ministry Dr. Mustafa Redha, the Assistant Undersecretary for Planning and Quality Affairs Dr. Muhammad Al-Khashti, and the Director of the International Health Relations Department, Dr. Rehab Al-Wattian.
